Bob Hyde, 90, Evansville

Bob Hyde, 90, of Evansville, entered his eternal rest at Deaconess Midtown Hospital on June 14, 2025.

He was born in 1934 to Joseph and Martha Hyde (Dorris) in a log cabin in the hills of Tennessee.

As a boy, he enjoyed building and racing soapbox cars, running track and field, competing on the debate team, and riding his motorcycle in his teenage years.

Bob had many jobs throughout his life, the first being at the Red Front grocery store at 12 years old, where he learned what he called “The Mr. Grayson Theory”, always throw in a little something extra to delight the customer.  He carried these values throughout his career, along with the principles of working hard and treating everyone as equals.  He worked at Uebelhor and Sons in Jasper, Indiana, for 26 years, and later owned ABC Systems.

He was a devoted and loving father to his nine children, who dearly miss him and will remember all the life lessons he imparted to them. Among them was to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, to treat people the way you want to be treated, and to keep on the sunny side of life.

Bob took great pride in being a father and especially loved to tell anyone he could about how good all of his nine children turned out and how proud he was of them. His children fondly remember his singing, making fried bologna and popcorn, watching comedies, going bike riding, fishing, and setting up computers for them to play on.

He had a big personality and loved all God’s creatures, great and small. He often quoted Jimmy Carter, reminding others to “do whatever I can, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference.”

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Hyde; two sons, Danny Hyde Sr and Bruce Hyde; and one daughter, Beth Hyde.

He is survived by his children, Donna Cabeza, Sabrina Haake, Kurt Haake, Michelle Hyde, Shana Gearhart, and Cally Hyde, along with 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at Buehler Park Shelter House, 2501 Howard Drive in Jasper, Indiana, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the International Children’s Fund (www.icfaid.org), a cause that he was very passionate about.
