Board of Health removes ‘interim’ from Werner’s title
Shawn Werner will continue serving as administrative director of the Dubois County Health Department.

The Dubois County Board of Health officially hired Werner at a meeting held Monday.
After former director Jo Ann Spaulding resigned in late June, the board moved Werner in as interim director. They asked him if he wanted the position officially at the meeting naming him as interim director. He was amiable to taking on the position but the board decided to hold off on officially offering it until they had ensured all requirements for the hiring process were met.
He is a graduate of Northeast Dubois High School and has a degree in environmental health science from Indiana State University. He started at the department as an environmental health specialist in 2003 right after graduating from Indiana State University.
Werner has been leading the health department’s coordinated response to the pandemic since it began.
While serving as interim director, he has also continued to work in his position as an environmental health specialist and expects to continue working in both positions until the department hires a new specialist and has them trained.
He and his wife, Natalie, have two sons: 10-year-old Eli and 5-year-old Emmett.
