Blessinger seeks second term as county commissioner

Chad Blessinger announced he will seek re-election as Dubois County Commissioner representing District 1.

There are three commissioner districts in Dubois County. District 1 consists of Boone, Columbia, Harbison, Madison and Patoka Townships. A candidate for the office must live in the district but is elected by all county voters.

“During my first term as a commissioner, I worked with county leaders to accelerate neglected but needed county projects, voted against unnecessary government spending, and supported actions to make Dubois County more safe,” Blessinger stated in a press release. “Through open and collaborative relationships, we are getting things done but there is more work to do.”

Blessinger is a graduate of Jasper High School and Indiana University Bloomington and was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Honor Society.

During a year of national service with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, he worked with homeless and at-risk youth, provided hurricane disaster relief with the American Red Cross, and performed habitat restoration in the Golden Gate NRA, San Francisco.

Blessinger was also a graduate of the inaugural Dubois County Leadership Academy in 2011.

Professionally, Blessinger has been a third-grade teacher, the owner/operator of a small local business, and was twice elected to the office of Dubois County Treasurer.

Currently, Blessinger is a loan officer with Springs Valley Bank and Trust in addition to his role as president of the Dubois County Board of Commissioners.

Blessinger, 42, is a member of many organizations including the Jasper Lions Club, the local Selective Service Board, Jasper Outdoor Recreation Association, and the Jasper Chamber of Commerce. He is the chairman of the 9-1-1 Advisory Board, Vice President of the Dubois County Community Corrections Advisory Board, and a member of the Dubois County Child Protection Team.

Chad Blessinger and his wife, Lyn, have a son Dylan and daughter Leanne. They reside in Harbison Township. He is the son of the late Greg and late Linda Blessinger and has one brother, Craig, of Evansville.

“Given the opportunity, I will continue to work with county officer holders and staff to improve public health and safety, and to provide a responsive and responsible county government,” he said.
