Blackgrove seeking second common council term

Alex Blackgrove is running for second term to represent District 2 on the Huntingburg Common Council.
Blackgrove, 42, is a Republican.
According to Blackgrove, he is proud to have represented District 2 over the last three years and hopes to be able to continue representing District 2 in the future.
Since he has taken office in January 2012, he has represented the City of Huntingburg on the county 911 Advisory Board.
He is a member of the Stellar Community Committee that helped Huntingburg be selected as a Stellar Community and he is serving as chairman of the 14th Street Stellar Project.
He has supported various projects that are currently under construction or will be in the near future including the renovation of the gas garage for the Dubois County Ambulance Service, the railroad overpass, and the senior housing development of the vacant St. Joseph’s Hospital building. Also, the implementation of the $10 million Stellar Communities grant.
As an active fire fighter/EMT for the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department since March 2009 he knows public services need to be a priority as the City of Huntingburg grows, in doing so he supported the expansion of the 14th street fire station project and the renovation of the police station. He also supported adding additional police officers to the Huntingburg Police Department.
Blackgrove has also served on the Huntingburg Parks Board and the Huntingburg Advisory Planning Commission.
Alex is the son of Ruth Blackgrove (Holland), and the late David Blackgrove Sr. He is a 1991 graduate of Southridge High School and completed courses at Vincennes University to achieve his medical training.
Blackgrove is married to the former Jill Moore. He has five children, Kelsey Leighty, Trevor, Kaylee, Tanner and Taylor Blackgrove and two step-children Madelyn and Michael Lau. He also has two grandchildren.
