Birdseye man LifeFlighted after motorcycle crash
Richard Dooley, 62, of E. Conservation Club Road, Birdseye, was badly injured after the 2002 Harley Davidson he was operating struck a deer Friday afternoon.
According to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Dooley was northbound on Mentor Road about a quarter mile south of State Road 64 at about 1:40 p.m. when he encountered the deer. The motorcycle struck the deer nearly head-on and he was thrown from the motorcycle.
He was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for several broken bones, road rash and a head injury. He was not wearing a helmet.
He was flown from Memorial to Evansville for treatment of his injuries. Dooley was in fair condition Monday morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Birdseye First Responders and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
