Birdseye man dies after rolling truck over in single vehicle accident
A Birdseye man passed away in the emergency room after being extracted from a flipped truck near Schnellville.
Schnellville First Responders, Dubois County Sheriff’s Deputies and Memorial EMS were dispatched to a single vehicle accident this morning around 6:30 a.m., in which an 87-year-old Birdseye man was trapped in a vehicle that ran off of the road and overturned in the 7400 block of East Schnellville Road.
The report from the Sheriff’s Department says that 87 year old Francis Phillips was westbound on Schnellville road when for an unknown reason, he went left of center in his 1988 Ford Ranger pickup truck, ran off of the south side of the road, through a wooded area where the truck rolled over onto its top.
Phillips was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was trapped inside until members of the Schnellville Fire Department arrived and removed him from the wreckage.
According to police, Philips was awake and talking while in being extracted from the truck. He was taken by EMS to Memorial Hospital. and, while in the Emergency Room, Phillips passed away at 8:14 am according to Deputy Coroner Bob Veatch.
