Billy Joe Kemp, 90, Huntingburg

Billy Joe Kemp, 90, of Huntingburg, passed away at 10:14 a.m., on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born July 3, 1932, in Owensboro, Ky., to Roy and Hellen (Underwood) Kemp.

He married Jeanne Thompkins on September 5, 1954, in Pueblo, Colorado. 

Billy Joe retired as a finishing department supervisor at Kimball International. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion, Huntingburg Fraternal Order of Eagles and Huntingburg United Methodist Church. 

He enjoyed fishing, camping and working outside in his yard. 

Billy Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jeanne Kemp, who passed away on May 29, 2014; four siblings, Gerald “Bub” Kemp, Leroy “Cueball” Kemp, Danny Kemp and Dorothy “Dot” Neal; and by one infant granddaughter, Samantha.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald (Shannon) Kemp of Huntingburg and Kevin (Lori) Kemp of Robinson, Ill.; one daughter, Terri (James) Zink of Huntingburg; two siblings, Dave (Mary Alice) Kemp of Huntingburg and Peggy Stratman of Jasper; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and by his beloved dog, Ruby.

Funeral services for Billy Joe Kemp will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg, with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.  Pastor David Chinn will officiate at the service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Holland American Legion Honor Guard.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, the day of the service.
