Bicyclist struck in Ireland

An Otwell man was injured when the bike he was on was struck by a passenger car on County Road 150 North near Ireland, Saturday.

According to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Noah J. Cox, 18, of County Road 150 North, Jasper, was eastbound on County Road 150 North in a 2002 Honda Accord at about 2:53 p.m. Cox was following Ronald L. Watson, 58, of Otwell, who was on a bicycle.

Cox told police he saw a vehicle pass Watson so he decided to do so also. He passed Watson and turned into a private drive near the entrance to the Superior Ag Resources Co-op, 4958 W 150N. Cox said he thought he had cleared Watson but when he looked back Watson was on the ground.

According to police, the rear tire of the Honda Accord struck Watson’s bike causing him to crash.

Watson was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for neck, arm and chest pain.

Jasper Police Department, Ireland Volunteer Fire Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department at the scene.
