Beverly Adkins, 81

Beverly Hunt Adkins, age 81 of Birdseye, IN, passed away at 6:51am, Thursday, April 23, 2015, at her home.
Beverly was born on March 21, 1934 in Mayfield, Kentucky to OA Britt and Mabel Newton. She married her high school sweetheart, Earl Adkins on May 30, 1953 in Ashland, Ky.
Beverly attended Lafayette and Ashland High Schools in Kentucky, graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Western Kentucky University and earned 30 hours above her Rank 1. She was a teacher at Bend Gate and Union Town Elementary Schools and retired from the Union County School system. She was a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church in Henderson, Ky.
Among her many accomplishments in life, she earned a gold medal in the Senior Olympics in figure skating. She was a big University of Kentucky basketball fan and loved to entertain her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Earl “Brother” Adkins of Birdseye; her daughter, Linda Rouser of Lexington, KY; two sons, Dr. Mike Adkins and wife Ginger of Birdseye and Greg Adkins of Indianapolis; four grandchildren: Amanda Burleson and husband Brent, Christine Szesny and husband Derek, Evan Adkins, and Tyler Stigers; her sister, Nancy Hawkins and husband Paul; nieces and nephews.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Edward Newton.
Relatives and friends are invited to Beverly’s Celebration of life from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home in Henderson, Ky.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the funeral home with Reverend Ted Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, Ky.
