Betty Sturm, 91

Betty Sturm, age 91, of Jasper, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.
Betty was born on May 11, 1922 in Jasper, Indiana to Othmar and Laura (Eckstein) Eckerle. She married Omer Sturm on November 18, 1944 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on February 26, 2002.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a volunteer and member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
She was an avid sports fan, participating in golf and tennis for many years and a co-founder of the Jasper Racquet Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Schneider and her husband Larry, of Columbus, Ind., and Carol Steffe and her husband Ron, of Jasper; three sons, John Sturm and his wife Polly, of Chevy Chase, Md., Bill Sturm and his wife Gail, of Lake Forest, Ill., and Glen Sturm and his wife Shane, of Jasper; 13 grandchildren: Patrick and Kathryn Sturm; Broc, Andrew, Patrick, and Jonathan Schneider; Alex and Nick Sturm; Kerry Brames, Blair and Bart Sturm; and Scott and Sara Steffe; eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband is one sister, Mary Lou Casper who passed in 1970.
Funeral services for Betty Sturm will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with private entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Food Bank, Holy Family or Precious Blood Catholic Schools, or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
