Betty J. Houchins, 84, Chandler

Betty J. Houchins, 84, of Chandler, passed away peacefully at 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Heart-to-Heart Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. She is reunited with the love of her life, Larry, whom she was married to for over 63 years.

Betty was born in Petersburg on July 2, 1941, to Harold and Mary (Kinman) Kent.

She married Larry Houchins on August 18, 1961. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2022.

She was a graduate of Petersburg High School and Oakland City College. She and Larry moved to Warrick County in 1966. She spent time working with Larry in various parts of the country. She was his personal secretary and went wherever he traveled. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Doug (Nancy) Houchins; daughter, Carolyn (David) Kolley; grandchildren, Amanda Jo (David) Moats, Josh Houchins, and Josh Kolley; great-grandchildren, Liam, Mandy, Julian, and Ava; sisters, Connie (Carl) Blackburn, Virginia (Don) Neal, and Ruth Ann (Rick) Johnson; sister-in-law, Connie Houchins; nieces and nephews; granddogs, Gadget, Dusty, Daisy, Poppy, and Ziggy.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her in-laws, Johnson and Sylvia (Robinson) Houchins, and brothers-in-law, John (Patricia) and Bill Houchins.

A graveside service for Betty J. Houchins will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Heart-to-Heart Hospice. A special thanks to Jason, Ashlin, Candice, Mike and Scott. The staff was caring, and the kindness they showed Betty was tremendous.
