Beta Gamma Chapter August meeting minutes
Beta Gamma Chapter of Indiana Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators, met for their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 13, at Holy Family Fellowship Hall. Twenty-four members were present. A light lunch was served by the August meeting hostesses, Kathy Bachman, Clara Fromme and Kristy Dilger.
President Ava Widolff welcomed the members. Widolff called on Candy Neal from Dubois County Cares. Neal spoke about a program Dubois County Cares is sponsoring with sixth-grade youths to promote making healthy choices. Volunteers are needed to facilitate the 8-9 week program. The program meets twice a week. Online training is available. Volunteers will be paid. Contact Dubois County Cares for more information.
President Widolff then invited members to participate in a letter-writing activity suggested by Beta Epsilon sister Amy Leitze from Ball State. Members wrote notes to freshmen education majors at Ball State to “pep them up” for the year ahead.
President Widolff called the meeting to order. Chaplain Beth Meece read a prayer for teachers and students starting the new school year. Secretary Kathy Bachman called the roll. Minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as written. Thank you notes were received and read from Dubois County Cares and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Under Altruistic: Paula Peter reminded members to record their Altruistic monetary giving and volunteer hours.
Under ADK Month Connie Messmer Brenner had no report.
Under Budget Brooke Elrod made a motion to increase the Annual Beta Gamma Scholarship to $1,000. It was voted on and passed.
She reminded members that dues are payable and have been raised to $95.
Under Courtesy, Marie Patton will send a Thinking of You card to Stella Bennett. Please let Marie or President Widolff know of anything for Courtesy. ( Ava: (812) 639-9718 Marie (812) 630-1135) Several members are in nursing homes. Delores Lueken is asking for limited status.
Under Membership, Brenda Hurm reminded members to be thinking of asking new members.
Under Summer Outing, Ruth Gehlhausen reported that 8 members enjoyed their trip to Patoka Lake Brewing. The group toured the facility and had lunch at the BMF Café.
Under New Business, Beta Gamma Chapter was awarded a Seven Pearl Chapter Award at Regional Convention. It is quite an honor to again be given this award.
The new 2026-2028 program books were distributed. President Widolff introduced her new theme, “In tune with Alpha Delta Kappa”. It represents her love of music. In 2026-2027, Beta Gamma meeting Altruistic giving benefits Anderson Woods.
President Widolff and Clara Fromme spoke on the Regional Convention in Nashville. It was held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. They expressed that the programs they attended and the overall conference were well worth their time. Next year the International Convention will be in Spokane, Washington.
Members were wished a happy birthday. Celebrating in August were Marie Patton (Aug. 4), Christy Bartley (Aug. 8), Brenda Bender (Aug. 13) and Sandy Miller (Aug. 14).
The August Meeting hostesses were thanked.
The meeting closed with the singing of “Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa”.
The next meeting will be September 10 at Holy Family Fellowship Hall. Sister Time begins at 3:45 p.m. Ava Widolff will be the guest speaker and will speak on “Do what you love”. Hostesses are Janet Townsend, Jessica Mehringer and Stella Bennett.
