Bernice B. Begle, 92, Ferdinand

Bernice B. Begle, 92, of Ferdinand, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at her daughter’s house in St. Henry.

Bernice was born April 3, 1932, in Ferdinand to Joseph and Mathilda (Schultheis) Braunecker.

She married Jerome L. Begle on October 13, 1951, in St. Ferdinand Church.

He preceded her in death on April 23, 2000. Bernice was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Henry Church and Christian Mothers, Ferdinand Homemakers, Ferdinand Senior Citizens, Huntingburg Conservation Club and St. Henry Community Club. Bernice enjoyed knitting afghans and quilting blankets for the family. 

Bernice is survived by two daughters, Beverly Neukam of Holland and Becky (Dave) Brittain of St. Henry; six grandchildren, Chris (Christina) Neukam of Indianapolis, Patrick (Misty) Neukam of Florida, Jannel (Paul) Steinmetz of Ferdinand, Natalee Willard of Dale, Todd (Krystal) Brittain of Ferdinand and Josh (Courtney) Brittan of Loogootee; 17 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; three brothers, Charles (Norma) Braunecker and Gene (Cindy Schaefer) Braunecker, both of Ferdinand and Joseph “Junie” (Janet) Braunecker of St. Meinrad; sister-in-law, Betty Braunecker of Ferdinand.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; a son, Keith Begle; grandson, Matt Brittain; son-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” Neukam; grandson-in-law, Kurt Willard; brothers, Leroy, Robert and James Braunecker; sister, Irma Kluemper Mundy; sisters-in-law, Marlene Braunecker and Joanna Braunecker; brothers-in-law, Tom Kluemper and Cyril Mundy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The St. Henry Christian Mothers will recite a rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Friends may call on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
