Bernard T. “Bernie” Pund, 76, Ferdinand

Bernard T. “Bernie” Pund, 76, of Ferdinand, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born in Ferdinand on Aug. 6, 1939, to Leo and Cornelia (Schum) Pund. He married Mary F. Kerstiens on June 23, 1962, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Mr. Pund was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and the Ferdinand Community Center. He served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years. He retired from Jasper Wood Products. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and traveling and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University basketball fan.

Surviving are his wife, Mary F. Pund; a daughter, Donna (Andy) Lueken of Ferdinand; a son, Dan (Elaina) Pund of Lake Charles, La.; four brothers, Harold (Paulita) Pund and Ken (Susan) Pund, both of Ferdinand, Robert (Janice) Pund of Santa Claus and Tom (Linda) Pund of St. Anthony; two sisters, Rita Streicher and Jean (Ron) Schulz, both of Ferdinand; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry. Burial will be in St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery in Ferdinand. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
