Bernard M. Marley, Ph.D., 66

Bernard M. Marley, Ph.D., 66, of Huntingburg, IN, completed his lifetime of service to others on Friday, October 18, 2013.

He was born September 2, 1947 in Pana, Illinois, son of Bernard L. and Dorothy F. Marley.

Dr. Marley was a Professor of Education at Oakland City University in addition to being vice president for Prison Education.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, his son Shawn, his son Tony, daughter-in-law Amy, granddaughters Macie and Emma, as well as three sisters: Anne Marty, Becky Miller and Monica McDonald and five brothers: Tom, Dennis, David, Paul, and Gerry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Amanda.

He held many professional memberships and was a noted HLC Accreditation team chair. He held membership in Phi Delta Kappa, in which he won the Research Award on numerous occasions. A gifted grant writer, he was awarded many grants for Oakland City University which greatly contributed to its growth. He had also served as University Reading Specialist, Dean of the School of Education and Provost of the University.

Bernard was a true servant leader as a devoted teacher, motivator of everyone he met, mentor to many, friend to anyone in need, and a superlative problem solver. His greatest loves in this life were the members of his family.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Monday, October 21, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Church from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Monday, prior to the funeral. Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
