Bernard L. Loechte, 92, of Schnellville, Indiana passed away at 8:25 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at home.

Bernie was born in Schnellville, Indiana, on February 1, 1923 to Joseph and Cornelia (Lueken) Loechte. He married Elfrieda Miller on September 11, 1948 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. She preceded her in death on December 15, 2005.

Bernie was an Army Veteran, serving during WWII in the anti-aircraft division. He was overseas for 30 months, serving in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. Bernie retired from Hoosier Desk Company, where he had worked or 45 years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #673, and a past member of the American Legion Post #147.

He enjoyed playing cards, spending time working on his farm, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by one son, David Loechte and his wife Marilyn of Schnellville; two grandchildren, Valerie Lange and her husband Josh and Michelle Loechte, both of Schnellville; one great-grandson, Hunter Lange; one sister, Alvina Fendel of St. Meinrad; one brother, Maurice Loechte and his wife Mary Jane of St. Anthony.

Preceding him in death are three sisters, Lucille Hasenour, Lorina Hasenour, and Francis Heeke, and one brother, Lawrence Loechte.

Funeral services for Bernard L. Loechte will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
