Berdean G. Chappell, 87

Berdean G. Chappell, age 87, of Huntingburg, passed away at 2:55 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014, at her residence in Huntingburg.
She was born November 1, 1926, in Birdseye, Ind., to Alvin and Dora (Koch) Garland.
She married Andrew “Jack” Chappell on July 3, 1948, in Huntingburg.
Berdean formerly worked at the GE plant in Huntingburg during World War II, as a bookkeeper for Chappell’s Texaco and Chappell’s Electric, and as a clerk at Gossard’s and Winning Apparel. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Huntingburg Conservation Club, and the V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew “Jack” Chappell, who passed away in 1987; three brothers, Vernus “Copper” Garland, Frank Garland, and James Garland; and three sisters, Etta Belle Uebelhor, Jewell Eckert, and Rosalee Garland who died in infancy.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Andrea (Larry) Fleck of Indianapolis; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael (Selene Phillips) Chappell of Floyds Knobs, Ind. and Daniel (Anita) Chappell of Greenwood, Ind.; one sister, Rebecca Sprinkle of Greencastle, Ind.; one brother, Carl Garland of Little Rock, Ark.; by six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Berdean G. Chappell will be held at 10:00 a.m., EDT, on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery (Huntingburg).
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2-8 p.m., EDT, on Monday. A parish rosary prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. and a V.F.W. Auxiliary memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 313 N.
