Beach not open at Patoka Lake due to high water levels

The swimming beach at Newton-Stewart SRA – Patoka Lake will *not* be able to open for the season on Memorial Day Weekend.

The beach is currently more than 6 feet underwater, due to continued high water at the reservoir. Currently, water levels are 7.5 feet above normal summer pool (536.0 feet MSL) and are expected to rise further due to recent rainfall.

Due to the beach being closed, the Beach Area Concession and the Swimming Beach Showerhouse/Restrooms will not open for the season this weekend. We ask families to comply with the closure to prevent unintended injuries.

At this time, they park cannot provide an estimate for when the beach will be able to open. However, boating, hiking, camping, naturalist programs, and other activities at the lake are still available!

Programs and activities by the naturalist staff will still be offered, so please check the events calendar a day or two before visiting/camping, as some currently scheduled programs may be moved, modified, or cancelled due to the high water situation.
