Ferdinand, November 14, 2011 – Barbara Mohr, a volunteer at the Tri-County YMCA received, along with 36 other volunteers from neighboring YMCAs, the Volunteer of the Year Award at the YMCA Leadership Forum held at the Indianapolis Convention Center on November 2, 2011.

Roger Corley, Executive Director/CEO, described Barb’s service to the YMCA as priceless. “Barb is the personification of dedication and commitment to her community.”

Corley further explained how Mohr joined a committee in the 80’s to develop a plan to establish an indoor recreation facility to serve the youth in her community. “She was instrumental in organizing a fundraising event which provided a great start. Through her commitment nearly 20 years later she helped form and become an original member of the Tri-County YMCA board and secretary for seven years.” Corley said. “After taking a mandatory year off the board she has rejoined to serve and grow what she helped establish.”

The award is presented to those volunteers who have given the highest level of service impacting and advancing the mission of the YMCA. The statewide YMCA Leadership Forum is a conference held annually each year.  This year over 200 local YMCA leaders gathered to participate in workshops and share in discussions on how they can further strengthen the YMCA’s cause of strengthening the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
