Barbara J. Neukam, 81, Jasper

Barbara J. Neukam, 81, of Jasper, passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, in Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee.  

Barbara was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 5, 1940, to Joseph and Othello (Hudson) Bellner.  

She married Junior Ray Neukam on January 19, 1957, in St. Joseph Catholic Church.  

Barbara enjoyed volunteering. She volunteered through Precious Blood Catholic Church and their school, Cathedral Health Campus and spent her time driving the elderly to doctors’ appointments.  

She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. 

Barbara enjoyed puzzles, reading, latch hook quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.  

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Junior Ray Neukam of Jasper; four daughters, June (Bill) Shimer of Jasper, Mary Jo Messmer of Huntingburg, Doris Messmer of St. Anthony and Chrissy (William) Phillips of Jasper; three sons, Ray Neukam of Jasper, John (Kristie) Neukam of Jasper, and Charlie (Rhonda) Neukam of Otwell; one sister, Betty Scuteri of New York; 15 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.   

Preceding her in death is one daughter, Rebecca Neukam, who died in infancy; one sister, Evelyn Bellner Herron; one brother, Donald Bellner; one brother-in-law, Richard Scuteri; and one son-in-law, David Messmer.  

A Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara J. Neukam will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. 

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, at the Becher-Kluesner downtown funeral home in Jasper, IN, and again from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service time at Precious Blood Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, June 20.
