Barbara A. Wineinger, 82, Jasper

Barbara A. Wineinger, 82, of Jasper, passed away at 10:49 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community in Jasper with her husband and sister-in-law by her side.

Barbara was born in Washington, Ind., on February 22, 1941, to Bernard and Audrey (Wagner) Savage. 

She married Darrell D. Wineinger on August 27, 1961, in Springs Valley Church of the Nazarene.

Barbara was a 1959 Springs Valley High School graduate. She attended Asbury College before receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kentucky Wesleyan College. She received her master’s degree in biology from Indiana University. She continued her graduate work at Butler University and Indiana State University.

She worked two years in public school teaching at Perry Central School and Peotone, Illinois school corporation. She spent 29 years of college teaching at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Vincennes University and Vincennes University Jasper Campus. She held the position of Department Chair for Science/Math at Vincennes University Jasper Campus for 20 years.

She was a member of the National Council of Instructional Administrators, Human Anatomy and Physiology Society, Association of College and University Biology Educators, Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Indiana Association of Biology Teachers, Indiana University Biology Alumni Association, and Kentucky Wesleyan Biology Alumni Association.

Barbara received honors in the National Honors Society, Taggart Citizenship Award, three Distinguished Service Awards, Who’s Who of Professional Women, and was elected four times by students to Who’s Who of American Teachers.   

Barbara went on seven mission trips in the Caribbean. There, she directed Vacation Bible School and supervised children in their various activities.

She enjoyed missionary work, volunteering at the church, working with children, shopping, and spending time with family.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years, Darrell Wineinger of Jasper; sister, Judith Bruner of Loogootee; cousin, Mary Rose (Delmer) Holland of Brownsburg; sister-in-law, Patty Anderson Hoffman of Jasper.  

She is preceded in death by her parents.  

A funeral service for Barbara A. Wineinger will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in the Jasper Church of the Nazarene in Jasper, Indiana. A burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Ames Chapel Cemetery in Paoli, Indiana.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. service time on Saturday at the Jasper Church of the Nazarene.
