Barbara A. Herbig, 79, Ferdinand

Barbara A. Herbig, 79, of Ferdinand, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Barbara was born January 4, 1940, in Ferdinand to Anthony and Frieda (Boeglin) Olinger. She married Gerald “Jerry’ Herbig on May 28, 1960, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2013.

Barbara was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church and its Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to numerous card clubs.

Barbara is survived by a son, Rick (Ava) Herbig of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Debbie (Phil) Hoffman and Sue Herbig, both of Jasper; three brothers, James (Shirley) Olinger and Andy (Nancy) Olinger, both of Ferdinand, and Jerry (Julie) Olinger of Huntingburg; two sisters, Mary Lee Meyer of Mariah Hill and Norma (Del) Steinhart of Jasper; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Davis) Hasenour and Nicholas (Brooke) Hoffman, all of Ireland, Bradley (Lindsey) Herbig of Philadelphia, Penn., and Kevin Herbig of Gaithersburg, Md.; five great-grandchildren, Karley Black, Jake Hasenour, Parker Hoffman, Ace Hasenour and Lucy Hasenour.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald and two grandchildren, Rachel and Steven Herbig.  

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2019, at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 4 to 7 p.m. and also Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Benedict.
