Bald eagle nest search continues with help from public and drone

Indiana Conservation Officers are continuing to search for and eliminate possible nest sights belonging to the bald eagle that was shot and died of its injuries last week. (Story here.)

Search efforts have included the use of aircraft and drones to search nests in the area. The three nests closest to where the eagle was found have been eliminated from the search as all three have been documented to be two-parent nests.

Indiana Conservation Officer Kenny Tincher reported, “The amount of phone calls and the help from the citizens we have received so far has been almost overwhelming.”

Local public service agencies have also provided assistance. The Dubois County Sportsman’s Club donated money to cover the costs of the use of an aircraft and Ohio Valley Search and Rescue provided the use of a drone.
Officers will continue to monitor nests this week.

There is a reward of up to $2500 for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting the eagle.
