Backyard & Beyond brings indoor comfort outdoors

Allan and Dana Foy will be opening the doors to their new business, Backyard & Beyond, in downtown Jasper Friday morning.

The Jasper couple began exploring ideas for a business last summer. Allan, who operated a landscaping business while working as a Jasper police officer, would often be asked for suggestions on outdoor furniture or decorations when he was on a job.

Based on his background and the increasing demand for outdoor housewares, the couple began to explore opening a business to supply anything that would allow homeowners to enjoy indoor comfort on their patios. It was while they were looking for a location that Chad and Phil Mundy, who own Adventures Recreation & Gear, approached them about opening up in their former location at 331 Mill Street.

“We are excited to be here. It is nice to be part of everything going on downtown,” Dana said about being in the midst of the downtown revitalization efforts.

Allan explained they want to offer a full range of items designed for homeowners to get the most out of their patios. The new store will carry high quality outdoor furniture for dining, seating and leisure as well as specialty items like fire pits, terrariums, fire tables, pottery, rugs, pillows and umbrellas.

“This is furniture that you are going to be able to leave outside; you won’t have to pull it in for winter,” Allan said.

Backyard & Beyond will also offer custom-built outdoor fireplaces and fire pits subcontracted through Jeremy Burger. Burger is a Jasper police officer who is skilled in building patios, retaining walls and other outdoor hardscapes.

“So, if someone wants a patio installed, we can help with that and then furnish it,” Allan said.

The business will also offer delivery and setup as part of the cost of the items they carry.

“We just want to create a great environment for customers that is literally hands-free from the time they purchase it to the time they get to enjoy it at their home,” Allan said.
