Austin G. Butke, age 89
Austin G. Butke, age 89, of Stendal, Indiana, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at Brookside Village in Jasper.
He was born April 23, 1923 in Stendal, Indiana to Benjamin and Mary (Egbert) Butke. He graduated from Stendal High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He then graduated from Evansville College and taught math at Lowry High School in Dearborn, Michigan until his retirement. He was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one sister, Dorothy Cannon.
He is survived by:

- Reuben (Eunice) Butke – Stendal, IN
One sister,
- Juanita (Maurice) Hagemeyer – Stendal, IN
One nephew who was raised like a brother,
- Gerald (Cathy) Cannon – Centerville, Ohio,
and other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Austin Butke will be held at 2:00 p.m., (E.S.T.), on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal with burial to follow in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery (Stendal). The V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites. Pastor Ed Wicks will officiate the services.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, the day of the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or to a favorite charity.
