Augusta H. Wagner, 91, Jasper

Augusta H. Wagner, 91, Jasper, passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.
Augusta was born on March 20, 1925 in Jasper, Indiana to Frank and Cecelia (Bockelman) Eckerle. She married Victor J. Wagner on June 7, 1947 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2011.
Augusta was a 1943 graduate of Jasper High School. She was a homemaker and worked for the Dubois County Courthouse, Corbin’s. She also worked for 27 years for Memorial Hospital in Jasper until her retirement in 1992. She was also an election official for 50 years.
After retirement she volunteered for Fifth Street and Holy Family Schools and served as a caregiver to relatives and friends for many years.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, where she served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. She was active in the Christ Renews His Parish Ministry and the Cursillo Movement. She was a member of the St. Joseph St. Ann’s Society, and a member of the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by six daughters, Sarah Zoglman and husband Ed of Jasper, Susan Habig and husband Steve of Jasper, Marlene Schwartz and husband Craig of Ellettsville, Ind., Elaine Schitter and husband Jerry of Jasper Vicki O’Brien and husband Kenneth, Italy and Kristine Gross and husband Spencer of Hope, Ind.; three sons, Howard Wagner and wife Sharon of Dubois, Dr. Luke Wagner and wife Mary of Newburgh and Dr. John Wagner and wife Dr. Cathy Wagner of Indianapolis; 30 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Dudine of Indianapolis.
Preceding her in death beside her husband were three grandchildren, Caroline O’ Brien, Angie Beck, and Jobe Zoglman; two sisters, Pearl Lorey and Francie Dischinger; and five brothers, Leonard, Alphonse, Harold, Carl and Eddie Eckerle.
Funeral services for Augusta Wagner will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
