Auffart, Democrat, announces bid for Jasper District 3 seat

Jasper — Adam Auffart has filed as the Democratic candidate for the 3rd District seat on the Jasper Common Council.

Auffart, 37, is the son of Joseph and Lyra Auffart of Jasper. He and his wife, Nina, live on Emily St. and are new parents to a 5-month-old daughter, Lillian.

“As a new parent I want nothing more than to have my daughter enjoy the same great experiences I did growing up in Jasper. It’s always been a great place to call home and as it evolves it can become an even greater community,” Auffart said in a statement announcing his candidacy.

Auffart is a graduate of Jasper High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He recently received his Masters of Business Administration from Marist College in January.

Auffart spent more than 10 years working for Jasper Rubber Products, Inc. in sales. Since 2012 he has been the business and industry advisor for Purdue University’s Technical Assistance Program (TAP). The position is a joint partnership between Purdue University, Vincennes University Jasper Campus, and Dubois Strong.

“My career has given me experience at finding the most efficient and value added solution to the problem at hand. Keeping an open mind, working together, listening to all sides of the issue, and making an informed decision after the problem has been identified are skills I have learned and practiced. I feel that being respectful to opposing views and working through differences can yield a solution that benefits all involved.”

Auffart has been a past board member for Mentors for Youth and the Jasper Country Club. He serves in an advisory capacity for Dubois Strong and is a member of the VUJC Community Advisory Committee.

He and his wife are members of St. Joseph Parish. He was a volunteer coach for Jasper Youth Baseball for three years and is currently a volunteer for Junior Achievement.

He is currently participating in Connect with Southern Indiana, which is a leadership program sponsored by the University of Southern Indiana to boost Indiana’s retention of intellectual capital.

“I feel that nothing is more important than the trust of the members of a community. To maintain that trust I strongly believe that every tax dollar needs to be accountable and spent in the best interest of each and every member of the community,” Auffart said. “If elected I promise to maintain that sentiment with each vote I cast on behalf of District 3 and serve the community’s best interest. The City of Jasper has been blessed with great leadership and fortune over the past 185 years and I will do my part to continue that tradition and prosperity.”
