As Primary filing date approaches, candidates add names to municipal races

Interested candidates in the 2023 Primary have until noon this Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, to file for the seats up for election.

The Primary determines which candidates will represent the Democratic and Republican parties in the Municipal Election in November.

So far, the only contested Primary is for the Huntingburg Mayor nomination between incumbent Steve Schwinghamer and challenger James Hopf on the Republican ticket.

According to Dubois County Clerk Amy Kippenbrock, nearly all current officeholders have filed for reelection.

There are several new candidates on the ballot this year.

On the Republican ticket

  • Vince Helming — Jasper Council District 4
  • James Hopf — Huntingburg Mayor
  • Pamela Bolte — Huntingburg Council District 4
  • Eric Jochim — Huntingburg Council at Large
  • Bridgette (Jarboe) Bartley — Jasper Clerk-Treasurer

On the Democratic ticket

  • Ben Nowotarski — Jasper Council District 3
  • Daniel Kreilein — Jasper Council at large
