Arlena M. Abshire, 89

Arlena M. Abshire, age 89, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 8:45 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Tulsa, OK.

She was born June 23, 1924 in Floral, Kentucky to Ernest Edward and Mary Zelma (Lambert) Mickel.

She worked at Holland Dairy for 30 years as a lab technician. Arlena was a member of the First Baptist Church in Huntingburg where she participated in several church mission trips and was a bible school teacher, was a member of the Birdseye Eastern Star 590, and was a 4-H Club leader.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred Abshire, who died January 18, 1979; one brother, John Ernest Mickel; and one granddaughter, Rhonda Hill.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia (Fred) Hurst of Tulsa, OK, and Cheryl McIntosh of Apple Valley, MN; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Arlena Abshire will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery in Heilman, Indiana.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 6:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday. The Birdseye Eastern Star #590 will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home.
