Ardella I. Schneider, 92, St. Anthony

Ardella I. Schneider, 92, St. Anthony, passed away at 9:46 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

Ardella was born in St. Anthony, Indiana on May 12, 1924, to Hubert and Pauline (Altmeyer) Persohn. She married Clarence “Pete” Schneider on July 21, 1943 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2016, after 72 years of marriage.

Ardella worked at the Jasper Hatchery during World War II. She was also a cook at the Schnitzelbank and the St. Meinrad Abbey. She babysat for children in the neighborhood.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Anthony Catholic Church, the St. Anthony American Legion Post 493 Auxiliary, the Christian Mothers, and was an avid member and collector of the Salt and Pepper Shakers Club.

She enjoyed flowers, dancing to the Jitter Bug, preparing food for whomever came into her home, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Terry and husband Tony of Silverville, Ind. and Mary Ann Eckstein of Huntingburg; three sons,
Randy Schneider and wife Gwendolyn of Kyana, Lonnie Schneider and wife Cheryl of Ferdinand and Myron Schneider and wife Angie of Shelbyville, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Cora Fischer and husband Jim of St. Meinrad and Bonnie Fleck of Jasper; one brother, Lawrence Persohn and wife Rumilda of Jasper.

Preceding her in death besides her husband was one daughter, Diana Schneider, two sons, Allen Schneider and Don Schneider, three sisters, Ruth Knies, Modesta Pershon, Leona Schaeffer and four brothers, Ray, Walter, Joe, and Ralph Persohn.

Funeral services for Ardella I. Schneider will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, Indiana with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church on Thursday. The St. Anthony Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m.
