Anton J. Bockelman, 90, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.

Anton was born

on May 1, 1924, in Jasper, Indiana to Anton F. and Theresa (Knust) Bockelman. He married Mary Jean Armes on April 14, 1953 in Jasper, Indiana.

Anton managed Tony’s Gulf Gas Station at the “Y” in Jasper for many years, and drove a school bus for the Jasper School Corporation. He was also the secretary/treasurer of Farmers Mutual Insurance that served Dubois County and the surrounding areas.

He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, and the Jasper Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Bockelman of Jasper; one daughter, Sandy Russell of Augusta; three sons, Michael Bockelman and his wife, Jackie, of Jasper, Richard Bockelman and his wife, Sharon, of Huntingburg, and A.J. Bockelman, and his husband Jeromie Jarreau, of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Amy and Philip Bockelman; two step-grandchildren, Dennis Heath Russell and Keith Russell; three step-great-grandchildren, Jadea Russell, Jake Russell, and Harvick Russell; two sisters, Ardella Lubbehusen and her husband, Cletus, of Ferdinand and Joan Oeding and her husband, Jerry, of Jasper.

Preceding him in death are sisters, Dorothy Horney and Eleanor Sermersheim; brothers, Harold Bockelman, Fredrick Bockelman, Sylvestor Bockelman and Claudie Bockelman; and one son-in-law, Dennis Russell.

Funeral services for Anton Bockelman will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the Noon service time on Friday, December 5, 2014, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.
