Anthony “Tony” V. Haas, age 91, of Jasper, passed away at 10:22 a.m. Wednesday, (April 23, 2014), at the St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

He was born at St. Anthony, Indiana on November 2, 1922, to John and Theresia Heichelbech Haas. He married Bertha Goeppner February 22, 1943 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, she preceded him in death June 18, 2010.

Tony was a US Army Veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. He retired from the Bob Luegers Motor Company where he worked for 27 years. After retirement worked at Rural King in Jasper.

He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Life member of the V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper.

He enjoyed playing cards and fishing.

Tony is survived by two daughters and two sons; Shirley Vonderheide, of Jasper, Kathleen Holman and husband Martin, of Bristow, Herb Haas and wife Kathy, of Jasper and Jerry Haas and wife Marilyn, of Washington, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are two sisters, Barbara Matthews and Marie Weyer and one brother, John M. Haas also one grandson Keith Allen Vonderheide.

Funeral services for Anthony Haas will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct military grave side rites.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper or to a favorite charity.
