Annual show fills Huntingburg park with classic German cars
Huntingburg City Park will host a club of German car enthusiasts on Saturday, August 14 when the Southern Indiana Volks Force Car Club hosts its 12th annual car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
They have hosted the annual event at the park for several years now and although it brings in Volkswagen enthusiasts and owners from all over the Midwest, Club President Joe Myers wants to make sure the local public knows about the event as well.
This year, organizers have expanded the show to include Porsche as well. Both vehicles have common roots since the co-founder of Porsche, Ferdinand Porsche, designed the Volkswagen motor in the 1930s. The early models of both vehicles have many interchangeable parts.
Myers expects there to be up to 150 cars with models ranging from the 50s up to more modern vehicles.
The public can attend for free but car owners pay a fee to register their vehicles in the show. Awards will be given out at 3 p.m. and Old School Cafe is providing concessions. There is a raffle for a 4:12, duel side plate transaxle that has a value of $1,100 donated by Buggy Works out of Indianapolis. Tickets are $5 each, 10 for $40, or $100 for 100. The transaxle comes with a one-year/12,000-mile warranty (street use only). There is also a half-pot drawing.
All proceeds go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Last year, the event was able to raise about $1,500 for the hospital and they hope to exceed that this year.
The event is sponsored by D-Patrick Ford.
