American Legion announces Oratorical Contest Zone Winners of 2012!

On Sunday Feb. 5, 2012 the Zone Four competition of the American Legion Oratorical Scholarship contest was hosted by the Jasper American Legion 147 in Jasper. The contestants competed within their own district and advanced to the zone which consists of any post south of Indianapolis (covering the entire southern half of Indiana). Each contestant gave an 8 to 10 minute prepared speech on the U.S. Constitution and a 3 to 5 minute speech on an assigned topic.

The American Legion is proud to announce that Jackson Embry a home schooled student from Huntingburg, IN, (sponsored by Post 147 Jasper IN), Emma Metz  of Columbus, IN (sponsored by Post 24 Columbus IN) , and Rebecca Frazer a home schooled student from Morgantown, IN, (sponsored by Post 230 Martinsville) were the the winners of the Junior Level in Zone Four.

Rebecca, who was also the 2011 State Champion, will advance to the 2012 State competition which will be held at the Indiana American Legion Headquarters in Indianapolis in March of 2012.

Rebecca is awarded $800, Jackson and Emma each received awards of $200.

The state contest consists of only four students from the entire state and the winner will then advance to the National contest in April to be held at the I.U. Convention Center in Indianapolis where there will be 53 or more contestants from all over the world.
