Alvina L. Schnell, 89
Alvina L. Schnell, 89, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Monday (March 23, 2015) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.
Alvina was born in Celestine, Indiana on August 13, 1925, to Bernard and Katherine (Fischer) Gadlage. She married Kenneth M. Schnell on May 6, 1947 at St. Celestine Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2006.
Alvina retired from Aristokraft, where she had worked for many years. She was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the St. Celestine’s St. Ann’s Society, and a former member of the V.F.W. Auxillary. Alvina was very creative and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, canning and baking.
She is survived by six daughters, Imelda “Mel” Oeding and her husband Mike of Velpen, Kathy Knust and her husband Ed of Schnellville, Ruth Gehlhausen and her husband Tom of Jasper, Karen Kuper and her husband Steven of Celestine, Nancy Schroering and her husband Emil of Celestine, and Peggy Merkel and her husband Greg of Jasper; two sons, Stephen Schnell and his wife Cindy of Celestine and Keith Schnell and his wife Cyndi of Louisville; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband are six sisters, Minnie Nordhoff, Ella Fritz, Veronica Hoffman, Gertrude Gehlhausen, Clara Schulz, and Etta Marie Klem; three brothers, Herman and Roman Gadlage, and an infant, Ralph Gadlage; and one granddaughter, Audrey Knust.
Funeral services for Alvina L. Schnell will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The parishes of St. Celestine and St. Joseph Catholic Churches will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Celestine Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or to a favorite charity.
