Alvin August Schatz, 97

Alvin August Schatz, 97 of Adeyville died Monday January 7, 2013 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

He was born March 20, 1915 in Adeyville, In. to Adam and Frances (Jacob) Schatz. He married Coleen Dowdy on November 12, 1949 in Assumption Cathedral in Evansville. Coleen died on October 6, 2008.

Alvin was a WWII Veteran and served in the Army Air Corps. He was a retired farmer, a member of St. Meinrad Parish, and a member of American Legion Post 366 St. Meinrad. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosina Michaels and Olivia Welp; two brothers, Linus and Arthur Schatz.

Surviving are two sons, Sam Schatz and his wife Pam of Santa Claus and Mark Schatz and his wife Marja of Siberia; one brother, Norbert Schatz of Boonville; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Funeral services 10 a.m Central time Friday in St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by St. Meinrad Legion Post 366.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m Central time, Thursday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Central time Friday at the church.
