Almeda Wilmes, 92, of Ferdinand, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018, surrounded by her family at Brookside Village in Jasper.

She was born November 18, 1925, in Ferdinand to Simon and Catherina (Rahman) Schum. She was united in marriage to Francis Herman Wilmes on June 24, 1952, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2011.
Almeda was a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish-St. Ferdinand Church and its St. Ann’s Sodality. She was a homemaker and helped her family on the farm. She enjoyed cross-stitch, cooking, gardening, canning and caring for her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Ron) Epple of Indianapolis and Diane (Jeff) Fischer of Santa Claus; sons, Ralph (Gina) Wilmes and Bill Wilmes, both of Ferdinand; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Wilmes of Ferdinand; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Weyer of Ferdinand.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Wilmes; brother, Victor E. Schum; and sisters, Cornelia Pund and Regina Schum in infancy.
Funeral services for Almeda Wilmes will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, in Christ the King Parish-St. Ferdinand Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
