Alma Jean Breidenbaugh, 91

Alma (Jean) Breidenbaugh, age 91 of Jasper passed away at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, (November 24, 2011) in Brookside Village in Jasper.

She was born in Portersville, Indiana on September 6, 1920 to Richard Arthur and Bertha Elizabeth (Cox) Huls. She had two marriages; John Theodore (Junie) Sermersheim who passed away on October 24, 1952, Arlo Breidenbaugh Jr.who passed away on April 30, 1999.

Jean Breidenbaugh was a lifelong member and long serving elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper and instrumental in the construction of the new north side church. And also member of the Xi Zeta Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

With a history of community service, Jean was for many years active with the Jasper Library Board and served as a past president of the Dubois County American Heart Association.

One of her great passions was cultivating roses and maintaining an extensive variety of roses in beds surrounding her home.

  • Mrs. Scott (Arletta Breidenbaugh) Newton, Indianapolis, IN

Three sons,

  • Arnold Lee Breidenbaugh and spouse Cathy, Tampa, FL
  • John Michael Sermersheim and spouse Miriam, Jasper, IN
  • Kim Jordan Sermersheim and spouse Magali, Cham, Switzerland

13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Two sisters,

  • Norma Opel, Greenwood, IN
  • Ruby Gramelspacher, Jasper, IN

Also preceding her in death are sisters, Helen M. Himsel, Edna Lorine Huls, Wava Critchlow and Phyllis Neal. Brothers, Leo, Larry, Jerry and Forrest (Fritz) Huls.

Funeral services for Jean Breidenbaugh will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday (November 28, 2011) in the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Community Cemetery in Haysville, Indiana. The Rev. Larry Langer will officiate.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday (November 27, 2011) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper.
