Allen O. Brescher

Allen O. Brescher, 86, of Ireland, Indiana, passed away at 6:15 a.m. CST on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Allen was born on November 25, 1928, to Herman and Elizabeth (Schnell) Brescher. He married Aline Jochum on June 19, 1954 at St. Benedict’s Church in Evansville, Indiana.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1952-1954. Allen was a lifetime farmer, previous owner of Brescher Soil Service for 20 years, and a former director of the Bank of Ireland. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, where he was the St. Mary’s First Parish Council President and was a former Usher and Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP). He also received the Brute Award with his wife, Aline in 1999, for their service in the Catholic Faith.

He was a member of the Ireland K of C, a member of the Jasper Fourth Degree Knights, the American Legion Post #147, the Ireland Lions Club, the Ireland Historical Society, the Moose Lodge #1175, the Dubois County Museum, the Jasper German Club, and the Ireland Sportsman Club.

He enjoyed farming, dancing, boating and skiing, Lionel train collecting, genealogy, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Aline Brescher, Ireland; four daughters, Gerilyn Schmitt and her husband Wayne of Ireland, Lisa Brescher- Masters and her husband Rob of Louisville, Amy Rasche and her husband Bernie of Ireland, and Renee Williams and her husband Steve of Jasper; sons, Mark Brescher and his wife Diane of Ireland, Kurt Brescher and his wife Margaret of Ireland, Pat Brescher and his wife Deb of Ireland and Jeff Brescher of Jasper; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Schmitt of Ireland.

Funeral services for Allen O. Brescher will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. St. Mary’s Parish will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The Jasper Moose will conduct a memorial service 6:00 p.m. and the Ireland K of C will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
