Allen J. Werne, 85

Allen J. Werne, 85, of Ferdinand died, Monday, August 25, at 12:20 a.m. at his home.
He was born February 12, 1929 to Ray J. and Dorothy (Dotterweich) Werne in Ferdinand.
Allen married Doris Harpenau on March 26, 1951 in St. Marks Church near Tell City.
Allen was a self-employed farmer. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He served 18 years as president of Ferdinand Farmers Insurance Company. Allen was one of the original six members of the Dubois County Airport Authority. Allen received numerous awards, 2006 Dubois County Cattleman Outstanding Cattleman Award; 1965 Outstanding Grassland Farmer and 2006 Indiana Beef Cattle Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Allen was a member of, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and its’ St. Josephs Sodality.
Allen is survived by his wife, Doris A. Werne; one son, Dan “Red” Werne of Ferdinand; four daughters, Judy Olinger and husband Gene of Mechanicsburg, Penn., Mickie Paulin and husband Greg of Ferdinand, Brenda Lueken and husband Ronnie of Schnellville, Bev Atkins and husband Gordon of St. Anthony; two sisters, Elaine Bettag and husband John of Mariah Hill; Dolores Boeglin of Ferdinand; two brothers, Bill Werne of Surprise, Ariz., Donald Werne and wife Rita of Ft. Lauderdale Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Allen was preceded in death by one son, Jerry L. Werne; one sister, Phyllis Sermersheim and two grandchildren, Nathan and Deven Lueken.
Visitation will be, Wednesday, August 27th from 2- 8 p.m. and Thursday from 7:00-9:30 a.m. at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will provide military graveside services.
