Alice June Harker, 91, Jasper

Alice June Harker, 91, Jasper, passed away surrounded by family at 4:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Brookside Village in Jasper.

June was born in Dubois, Indiana, on June 28, 1935, to Philmore and Irma (Hemmerlein) Neukam.

She was a 1953 graduate of Dubois High School.

She married Edward (Eddie) L. Harker on November 15, 1955.

In her youth, June attended church at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, where she was confirmed and married. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township, where over the years she taught Sunday School and confirmation classes, participated in church council, and was a member of the ELCA. She was active in the Dubois County Young Democrats and volunteered annually to work at the polls.

June worked in the accounting office at Meadow Gold Dairy until starting a family in 1957. In addition to being a dedicated wife, she then became a full-time homemaker and mother. She and Eddie devoted themselves to building a better life for their children, Jay and Julee.  Her sacrifices and devotion not only made their lives better, but also gave them wings to live life on their own terms, with unconditional love.

June loved to travel and enjoyed working outdoors, taking great pride in keeping her yard and landscaping beautifully maintained. While Eddie was at work, she helped run the farm, caring for, sorting, and loading livestock, loading corn planters, managing finances, cooking, cleaning and doing whatever else needed to be done. She was a skilled groundskeeper and a devoted homemaker who took pride in caring for her home and family.

Her wisdom taught them kindness, humility, and resilience. Her faith was an inspiration and a source of hope, and she loved her family and friends more than life itself. She was a moral compass, comedian, and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Julee Harker Gruneisen, and Julee’s companion, Tim Tedder, both of Louisville, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law, Debra Harker, of Munster, Indiana; three grandchildren, Kyle (Laura) Harker, Kristin (Devin) Rowland, and Elise (Gabe Jacobs) Gruneisen; and three great-grandchildren, Amelia and Lukas Harker and Jayce Rowland, with another Rowland on the way.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Eddie and their son, Jay.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Boone Township. Pastor Ken Boehm will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville.
