Alfred H. Jaeckle, 93

Alfred H. Jaeckle, a member of America’s greatest generation, passed away on March 18, 2018, in El Paso, Texas. Fred died one month shy of 93.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Mo., where he met and married Betty Jean, his wife of 62 years.

Fred lived a life filled with many accomplishments, treasured friendships, a devoted family, and much love and laughter. After serving our country in the Navy in World War II, he graduated from Northwestern University and began a career in sales that spanned 47 years. His first position as sales representative for Mead Johnson & Company in the early 1950’s led to greater responsibilities as vice president of Sales Administration in the 1970s.

After a short stint as an executive at Thermwood Corporation, Fred and his dear friend and partner, Michael Wertman, founded Furniture Concepts International. When they retired in 1997, Fred pursued his life-long passions in golf, jazz, reading, traveling, and rooting for the Cardinals baseball team full-time.

Fred was a very kind man, a very gentle man, a very wise man. He was interested in every person he met and every innovative idea he heard. He cared deeply about people and, as a result, people cared deeply about him. He loved life and celebrated all the gifts life gave him.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean, his parents Mildred and Alfred Jaeckle, and his youngest sister, Sally Blevins.

He leaves behind his daughter, Joy Jaeckle Baggett and her husband Ken of El Paso, Texas, his son Kurt Alfred Jaeckle and his wife Celeste Bunny Leach-Jaeckle of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, grandchildren, the eldest being Joanna Jaeckle Prazak, her husband Chris, and Alan Jaeckle, all of Houston, Texas, his sister, Shirley Fette, of Franklin, Tennessee, his lady friend Mary Lou Clayton, of Santa Claus, Indiana, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews.

We will miss him very much.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Nancy Hanks Lincoln Memorial Chapel, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, 3027 E. S St, Lincoln City.
