Albert W. “Bill” Eckerle, 77, of Jasper, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Bill was born in Jasper, Indiana on August 28, 1939, to Vincent “Jim” and Albertina “Abie” (Beyke) Eckerle. He married Clara Mae Merkel on April 27, 1961, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, IN.

He retired from the City of Jasper and worked for German American Bank in Jasper for many years. Bill was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, was a third-degree member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Jasper Moose Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at Beaver Lake for over 60 y rs, and was a proud fan of University of Indianapolis softball, the St. Louis Cardinals and Jasper Wildcat sports.

Surviving are his wife Clara Mae Eckerle; one son, Roger Eckerle and wife Terri of Jasper; two grandchildren, Cassie Guth and husband Eric and Cori Eckerle; one great-grandson, Kellen Guth; one sister, Donna Metzger and husband Bob of Louisville.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Albert W. “Bill” Eckerle will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from Noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Monday. The Jasper Moose Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 5:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Catholic Church, the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, or to a favorite charity.
