Albert A. “Jack” Sternberg, age 90, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 8:22 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Brookside Village in Jasper.

Jack was born in St. Anthony, IN on October 29, 1923 to Hubert and Mary (Durcholz) Sternberg. He had two marriages. His first marriage was to Dorothy Gunselman. She preceded him in death in 1967. He then married Carol Bleuel on September 14, 1968 in Pleasure Ridge, Ky.

Jack was the founder and owner of Sternberg Automotive Group headquartered in Jasper, Ind., with affiliates in Louisville, Evansville, Bloomington, and Dale. He was also one of the founders and on the Board of Directors of both Jasper State Bank, and Freedom Bank.

Jack was a Army Air Corps Veteran who served during WWII.

He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, the Jasper Moose, and the American Legion Post #147.

He enjoyed playing golf and selling cars.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Sternberg, of Jasper; two sons, Tom Sternberg, and his wife Pat, of Jasper, and Steve Sternberg, and his wife Grace, of Louisville, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Nikki Buckman, of Louisville, Ky., and Teri Bleuel and her husband Dr. Charles McCalla, Bloomington, Ind.; seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Henrietta “Sis” Ruxer, of Jasper.

Preceding him in death besides his first wife, is one son, Jack Sternberg, one step-son Robert Bleuel, one sister, Edna Seelye, and three brothers, August “Gus”, William “Bill”, and Richard “Dick” Sternberg.

Funeral services for Albert A. “Jack” Sternberg will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 8, 2014) at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, IN with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and one hour before services at Precious Blood Church. The Jasper Moose will conduct a memorial service at 6:00 p.m.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Precious Blood Catholic Church, the St. Benedict’s Convent, or to the Dubois County Food Bank.
