Airplane crashes at MasterBrand parking lot, sends two to hospital

Two people were injured when the plane they were in crashed in the MasterBrand parking lot at 624 West 3rd Street, Ferdinand.
According to authorities, the white and blue 1966 Cessna 150 single engine fixed-wing airplane missed the MasterBrand plant, power lines, utility poles and nearby semi-trailers as it came down in the parking lot at about 11 p.m. The nose of the plane then struck an embankment causing the plane to overturn.
The pilot, Gregory Solsrud, 52, of Georgia and passenger, Winston Solstrud, 18, Georgia, were both transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
All efforts were made by the Indiana State Police not to impede normal operations of the factory or its employees.
The Federal Aviation Authority and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will handle the investigation.
The Ferdinand Police Department, Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Ferdinand Fire Department, Dubois County Emergency Medical Service and the Huntingburg Airport assisted at the scene.
According to Indiana State Police, all efforts were made by the responders not to impede normal operations of the factory.
