Taswell — A man apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a woman he allegedly abducted was able to escape in the vehicle they drove to a rural Crawford County area north of Taswell Sunday night.

Around 11:00 p.m. Saturday, Tara N. Garland, 36, of Chandler, was taken at gunpoint outside her Warrick County residence by Bradley R. Sease, 45, Jeffersonville, her former fiancé.

Sease ordered Garland to drive in her car to Morgan Road in Crawford County where he continued to hold her at gunpoint overnight.

At about 6 a.m. Garland was able to get away from Sease. She got into her vehicle and attempted to drive off. Sease fired several shots at the vehicle, striking it twice.

One of the bullets struck Garland in the back after it traveled through the driver’s seat.

Garland was able to continue driving and eventually stopped at a residence on Highfill Chapel Road. She told the resident what had happened, who in turn dialed 911 to get Garland help.

Indiana State Police and Crawford County deputies responded to the area and began to search for Sease who they found a short time later near where the vehicle had been parked overnight. Sease was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy is to be performed on Sease.

Garland was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, where she is currently listed in serious but stable condition.
