Abby’s attitude celebrated at Northeast Dubois Elementary School

Northeast Dubois Elementary School students celebrated Abigail Raisor’s impact today.

Northeast Dubois Elementary School celebrated the lasting impact of Abigail Raisor’s kindness and love today by inviting students to wear bright colors and enjoy a bubble party during recess.

The eight-year-old passed away last April after suffering a brain aneurysm. On April 23, 2024, Abby was prepped to be a full organ donor. A final act of love and kindness from the girl known for her immense joy for life and love for everyone around her.

“Abby loved everything. She loved all humans. She loved animals,” said Alexa Rasche, Northeast Dubois Elementary School Literacy Coach and Dyslexia Specialist. “She was kind to every soul. She was so bubbly and bright. She had the best laugh… her laugh would just light up the room. It was incredible.”

Dax Purkiser, a sixth-grade student, came out to enjoy the bubbles with the elementary school.

Along with the celebration, staff members at the school wore special t-shirts–bright pink, of course–commemorating Abby’s kindness and life.

Marking the event and wearing the special shirts raised some questions from students, but this allowed teachers to provide further context to the young student’s life. A life that is celebrated weekly through a kindness initiative called Abby’s Attitude.

Students earn Abby’s Attitude cards by showing kindness to their classmates and staff, helping others in times of need, and making positive choices throughout the school day. Those cards are then placed into a random drawing each week. The winning cards, one for a boy and one for a girl, are recognized with a photo and a special prize.

“I’ve seen when the kids earn an Abby’s Attitude Card, they’re very, very proud of it. They want to immediately go to the office and turn it in. They’re very proud as they get to represent Abby’s spirit in that sense,” said Rasche.

The initiative draws inspiration from Abby’s constantly helpful character.

“She was so sweet. She wanted to help others all the time. You know, if anybody needed help, she immediately [helped]. If someone dropped something on the floor, she immediately went to help them,” Rasche explained.

Abby’s bubbly and bright spirit will always be celebrated and remembered by the school corporation.

Allie Royer, a second grader, ran with a bubble wand during the last recess today.
Bexley Lagenour, kindergarten, ran through the bubble machine’s bubble stream.
Emerson Merkley, right, attempted to keep her bubble growing while Crosby Neukam popped it.
Ms. Rasche demonstrated how to use the bubble wands with the kindergarteners.
