A letter to the community from the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce

Dear Huntingburg,

In the last few months, Huntingburg and Dubois County has been hit with stressful and challenging events. Residents and businesses alike have seen their hard work and property that they have worked for their entire life, torn apart or destroyed in a matter of seconds and minutes from winds and storms. But that is only one part of the story.

This community has shown great pride and support in these trying times. We have seen the true meaning of community. Dictionary.com tells us the Community “a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.” To add another layer to that, our community comes together and helps out in times of need. We have seen people come from all over town to help those affected by the storms. These people were so dedicated to helping others that they didn’t take breaks to go eat, they continued to work and the food was brought to them.

Our community isn’t just Huntingburg; it is the surrounding area as well. After the May tornado, the City of Jasper and Town of Ferdinand both offered up help and came to help in our time of need. That is what a community does. Dubois County steps up when there is a need and we all should be grateful that we have such a tight knit community that is willing to stand up and help when the call comes.

In a similar way that is what the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce is here for. The Chamber is here for the community, being business community and public community, we want to be part of a social group with a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage. We are always working to find new ways to do business and help our businesses get through rough times with bringing opportunities to town through tourism, new business development, and networking opportunities, as well.

One of the exciting things coming is the starting up of Chamber Luncheons. We will be kicking it off in August. We want to bring our members together in a friendly environment, let them network with each other and also bring in some guest speakers to talk about matters that are important in the business world today.  We want to make sure the Chamber is here for you and we want to make sure we are providing you with information to make your business grow and prosper as well as helping the community to grow and prosper.

Please remember that we are all one community. We are Huntingburg and Dubois County. We need to work together, solve problems, create new ideas, and develop long term goals to make this happen. We need to be a community that is not just looking back, but more importantly looking back learning from the lessons and is also always looking forward for the next great idea. That will create a great community that is growing and prospering.
