Huntingburg teen killed in ATV accident

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal ATV accident that occurred near Holland around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

William Conner Hall, 14, of Huntingburg was pronounced dead by the Dubois County Coroner’s Office after being transported to Memorial Hospital.

According to conservation officers, Hall and three other juveniles were riding their ATVs north on County Road 850W when they attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway. As the teens went around the curve, Hall struck the front of a southbound tractor/loader driven by Mike Hillsmeyer, also of Huntingburg.

Despite efforts at the scene and hospital, Hall was unable to be resuscitated. A juvenile passenger on Hall’s ATV received non-life threatening injuries. Hall was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Assisting agencies at the scene included the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Dubois County EMS, Holland Fire Department and first responders, and the Dubois County Coroner.

This makes the 10th fatality in Indiana involving an ATV this year. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders and passengers to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment and to operate with due regard when operating an ATV to prevent or reduce possible injury.
