9-year-old killed in ATV crash
Authorities are investigating an ATV crash that resulted in the death of a nine-year-old Spencer County boy over the weekend.
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 7:05 p.m., Spencer County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a severe ATV accident near the intersection of County Road 1150 North and County Road 1200 East, close to New Boston. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, Spencer County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered a single three-wheel ATV off the roadway. Both occupants—an adult male and a 9-year-old boy—had been ejected from the vehicle. Spencer County EMS and other first responders provided immediate medical care. Despite their efforts, the young boy tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The adult was transported to Owensboro Memorial Hospital with severe injuries.
Neither occupant was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, officials reported, and additional information may be provided as it becomes available, per privacy and legal considerations.
The coroner’s office, Spencer County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Claus Police Department, Saint Meinrad Volunteer Fire Department, New Boston Fire Department, Spencer County Emergency Medical Services, Air Evac, and Indiana Department of Natural Resources responded to the incident.
The Spencer County Coroner’s Office extended condolences to the family, friends and community impacted by the tragedy.
